Hazleton City Council is currently looking for 10th, 11th and/or 12th grade students in the Hazleton Area School District who would be interested in becoming a Junior Council Advisory Member. This position would afford sophomores, juniors, and seniors the opportunity to become acquainted with how the local government works, and to give the youth of our community the chance to provide input on issues currently facing the city government.
Under the Junior Council Advisory Member Program, students would need to serve one term to coincide with the 2024-2025 school year. Students must attend twice monthly, regularly-scheduled Council meetings held during the school year. The students will be able to participate in the business being conducted at the meetings, but they will not be able to vote or attend executive sessions. Additionally, students will need to observe all Council meeting rules, and dress appropriately.
Attached are handouts explaining the program. The deadline for applying for the position is Friday, September 27, 2024 at 3:00 pm. City Council will then review the applications and choose students to fill the positions.
